Do nasal polyps recur after surgery?
Nasal polyp is a mucous membrane disease and the underlying causes such as allergies should be well evaluated in its treatment. While successful results are obtained with drug therapy in the early stages, surgical treatment (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) is required in advanced polyps. Despite the surgery, the biggest factors in the recurrence of polyps are the inability to make a correct diagnosis, the use of inadequate surgical techniques such as removing polyps only, neglect of postoperative drug support and inadequate controls. However, in some stubborn cases, despite the best follow-up and treatment, relapses can still be observed.
